Kevin grew up in and still lives in Olathe, KS (a suburb of Kansas City, MO). He is the second oldest of five siblings. He has three sisters (current ages 34, 22, and 16) and one brother (currently age 19). Kevin was a Cub Scout from 1989-1993, and he was a charter member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 315 from March 15, 1993 (hence Batman Fan "31593") thru December 1999. His highest rank earned was Life (one rank below Eagle). Kevin played the violin in his elementary school Orchestra from 1991-1994 and also in his junior high Orchestra from 1994-1997. He took Spanish classes from 1996-1999 and is conversationally fluent in Spanish. He also took art classes throughout junior and senior high, from 1994-2000. He earned Silver and Gold Key awards in the local Scholastic Art Competition in his freshman and sophomore years (1997 and 1998). At home, as a teenager, Kevin painted murals of Batman related characters on his bedroom wall.

Kevin has no children of his own, but he is uncle to a 5 year old niece, a 1 year old nephew, and a newborn niece.

Kevin's Comics Corner

With his alliteral name, Kevin Kimpel must have been destined to become a comic book fan.

Kevin became a Batman fan after watching Batman: The Animated Series on television in 1992 when he was 10 years old. In the spring of 1993 (sometime around March 15th, another origin for "31593"), Kevin was at the grocery store with his parents when he saw and picked up Batman #491, the prelude issue to Knightfall. He was hooked. He has been a comic book collector ever since. He mainly purchased Batman related titles thru the early 2000s, but in recent years he has begun to collect several other DCU related titles.

Kevin's comic book store of choice is Elite Comics in Overland Park, KS. Elite Comics was founded in 1993, but Kevin didn't first visit the store until 1994. He has been a loyal customer ever since.

Kevin currently owns approximately 4,600 comic books.

We have all heard that Kansas is flat,
But did you know it is home to a fan of the bat?
He's a scholar by nature, he's still in school,
As such he's learned that Supes is a fool.
No man with ring that is governed by will
And kings from Atlantis make him quite ill.
Wonder Woman's appeal is breast's that are heaving,
But in this fan's opinion she's always underachieving.
The US is his country, with it's Stars and Bars
So he's no fan of the Manhunter from Mars.
The man called the Flash is from the midwest,
But he's a 3rd generation hero, a sidekick at best.

Batman's got friends, not a network of spies,
His supporting cast IS the world's best allies.
Avenging Angels are part of his world,
And due to sales numbers he's been Batgirled.
Oracle is there, with a computer quite handy
And with all her gizmos and whatnots it's sure not a TANDY.
A sidekick he has, but he's seldom seen,
He's away at boarding school cause he's still a teen.
Nightwing is thought of by fans as a son,
Since he wore the tights he's been most fun!
Catwoman and Huntress are heroes of sorts,
Alfred is there to give Bruce retorts,
The Gotham Police is a wonderful force
It's leader is Gordon, who keeps them on course.

Batfan has been rooting on for the last seven years
And with each new issue he stands up and cheers!
Kapow! Whizz-bang. Bif-fo! Ker-splat!
Batman defeats every villian, c'mon and take that!

The writers are awesome, the art is top-notch
Though Hama's best read in the dark with some scotch.
From Dixon to Rucka, Brubaker to Grayson
It doesn't get much better, this stuff is amayson.
I have to run now, but I had a bit more,
Feel free to put down your own thoughts, we spaces galore!
